    A Commission I Can Now Share…

As a result of the supplying the Royal Air Force Association with products for their range, I was asked to design and make a special collection.  It was framed glass art to be presented as gifts for dignitaries at 2019 RIAT. It was an honour and a thrill to create these, which featured the iconic Spitfire and the brand new F35 screenprinted onto hand-coloured glass.

Following on from this, I was featured the autumn edition of ‘Airmail’, the magazine for RAFA members.  A delightful gentleman called Jon saw this article just as he was remodelling his spare room into a “man-cave” which is plane themed.  He immediately decided he’d like something for this room and contacte me to commission two panels.

I’ve not yet met Jon, but he phoned me today to tell me his oversized parcel had arrived (always pack glass assuming they’re going to play football with the package) and that he was absolutely delighted with the panels.  He told me I can share them with you, as long as I don’t give out his address, in case a stream of women go knocking on his door…. He’s promised to send me photos when they’re installed, too, but for now, here’s a couple of snaps I took at the studio before wrapping them in yards of corrugated card (recycled of course) and lots of air (large packaging bubbles, also recycled!)

Seasons Greetings, and oh what a year!

Well, we’re only a couple of weeks away from the big day. I’ll be cooking dinner for the family which I thoroughly enjoy, but generally having a restful, chilled day.  Whilst maybe quaffing a wine or three, and maybe a bit of Baileys…

It’s been quite an eventful year!

With starting to supply the Royal Air Force Association with some exclusive products.  This led to providing a RIAT 2019 special order.  Developing the range for them has inspired a new range of products for me that incorporate a previous love – screen printing.

This year, I have worked with some new craft groups, new arts organisations as well as revisiting old friends.  I think I have had the busiest year so far for Glass On the Go workshops,  as well as some full classes down at the studio.

I’ve done a few more events this year, including Created By Hand Fair at Nottingham University, Notts Open Studios in the summer, Derby Six Streets Arts Trail. Last week I did a lovely local event at the Factory Kitchen, with Ilkeston Makers Markets.  In October, I got my work into the lovely Ferrers Gallery for their Christmas event, it’s a lovely place to go visit, I do hope I will be going back.

A couple more classes to go, and oh I best start my Christmas shopping soon, eh?  Talking of classes, keep an eye out for a new evening class planned for the new year.   Not just a single class, a series of sessions so you can respond to outcomes and work on longer projects.  I am very excited about the possibilities.

And before I go, I’ll leave a little hint about exhibitions.  Can’t say much yet, but I have something very interesting in the planning with my friend Jackie of Treehuggery….

    Merry Christmas everyone

    New Gallery Alert!

Very excited here at DTD Towers.  My work is now being stocked at the gorgeous Ferrers Gallery for Contemporary British Craft at Staunton Harold.

If you’ve never been, it’s well worth a visit soon; they stock lots of lovely work by some fabulous artists.  A great selection of glass as well as lots of other goodies – three floors of gorgeous art and craft – a beautiful gallery shop in a beautiful setting.

My work has been chosen for the current Christmas Exhibition.  You can find my brand new stag decorations which just now, you cannot get anywhere else.  As well some sparkly trees and festive wreathes (which are apparently flying out, already had to re-stock them).  My silhouette framed picture range are also available.

As well as the gallery, there are several other studios and shops from framers to artists, blacksmiths to baked artisan bread, textiles and treats for body and mind,  at the Ferrers Centre for Arts & Crafts, set in the grounds of Staunton Harold Estate.   Oh, and a lovely Tea Rooms, which I can highly recommend.
